IMPORTANT PSYCH SSO ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Connect with Psych Academic Advising: We are here to provide guidance, support, information, and referrals.

[New appointment system launch!] Schedule an appointment with our team!

To make scheduling an advising appointment easier and more convenient, we are now using Calendly, an online scheduling tool that lets you book a time that works best for you.

We are making this switch to improve user experience on desktop and mobile, appointment notifications, and increase access to appointments for all students. For us, it provides a higher level of customization on the back end, which you can see when making appointments.

Here’s how to schedule your appointment

Click this link: https://calendly.com/d/cnwk-4hr-g2t

  • Choose the advisor you’d like to meet with and type of appointment you’d like to schedule (if there are multiple options).
  • Select a date and time that fits your schedule. Each advisor may have a varying schedule.
  • Enter your name, UCB email, SID #, and respond to a few questions about why you’d like to meet.
  • Click "Schedule Event"—you’ll receive a confirmation email with the meeting details. Add the meeting to your calendar!
  • You will also get a text and/or email reminder before the meeting.
  • Join the Zoom Room at the time of your appointment! We will ask you to fill out a quick sign-in sheet for our record keeping.

New appointments will open 7 days in advance, so do check back as new appointments open up.

Our peer advising drop-in hours will resume with Fall Semester instruction.

Looking forward to meeting with you!

enlightenedWEEKLY OPPORTUNITY HIGHLIGHTS:

1. Research Experience Pathways (REP) Application Due 07/01!

Amazing opportunity to get involved in research in either Psychology or Neuroscience! The program will run through the academic year, with applications due in Summer '25.

The REP program was created to provide LAEP/work-study eligible undergraduate students with research experience in academia and research. Students accepted into the REP program will be paired with a graduate student or post-doc mentor and a faculty sponsor who will provide them with one-on-one mentoring and guidance throughout the progression of a research project over the course of the semester.

Accepted students will be able to earn wages for their research and will be funded through a newly developed work-study program called the Learning-Aligned Employment Program (LAEP). Students will also attend weekly professional development workshops where they will participate in journal club and will get to listen to the personal stories and scientific journeys of faculty and graduate students in the department. At the end of the semester, students will get to present their research projects at an informal poster session to other students and to the department.

Visit their website for a link to the application and more information!

2. Getting into Graduate School (GiGS) Mentorship Program, Application Due 08/03!

Are you interested in graduate school, but not sure where to begin? Check- out the GiGS mentorship program!

GiGS is open to all students and is dedicated to assisting first-generation, low-income, transfer, and other students historically underrepresented in higher education. Mentees are UC Berkeley students graduating after December 2026 who work with graduate student mentors throughout the academic year to learn about the research landscape, graduate school, becoming a competitive graduate school applicant, and develop goals for post-graduation plans.

GiGS students will be matched with a current UC Berkeley graduate student who will provide mentorship, advice, and guidance to demystify the graduate school journey, including research and the application process. GiGS mentors will share their own experiences as prospective students to graduate school, lessons learned along the way and genuine insights into graduate student life.

The overall goal is to provide a welcoming and supportive environment for all students to consider graduate school. Don't miss out on this amazing opportunity.

3.HEAL Initiative Applications, Due 06/14

The HEAL (Health Empowerment through Advocacy and Leadership) Initiative in Mental Health recruits and organizes students to participate in a 15-week or semester-long undergraduate fellowship (3-6 hours a week) that trains and empowers students to become leaders in mental health first aid, peer support, and community healing.

Fellows begin by completing nationally recognized Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) certification and then join a cohort of like-minded peers committed to advancing mental wellness on campus.

Mental Health First Aid is an established and scientifically-proven training curriculum for participants to learn how to identify and respond to individuals in crisis or those experiencing mental health or substance abuse challenges. The training itself is six hours, but can be split over 2 days (3 hours each).

During the fellowship, through workshops, mentorship, and collaborative projects, fellows explore innovative approaches to peer support, develop mental health programming, and engage in community-based research and advocacy. Open to undergraduate and graduate students from all disciplines, this fellowship is an educational and professional development opportunity centered on mental health advocacy. Standard fees for training and the fellowship are at no cost to participants as they are covered by supporting organizations.

Even if you are not interested in the fellowship opportunity, we encourage you to sign up for a training session (free of charge, thanks to our partner organizations’ generosity) and become Mental Health First Aid certified.

You may use the following link to indicate your interest in the Fellowship and/or Mental Health First Aid training and certification. Applications are processed on a rolling basis but the priority deadline is June 13th (11:59pm).

Sincerely,

HEAL Initiative Team

6. Important Berkeley Way West (BWW) Reminders:

  • It is critical that everyone accessing the building after hours or entering key-carded areas of the building be sure to tag (use key card) to access these spaces for themselves, when at Berkeley Way West. This especially applies after hours and at all times to any floors and interior spaces that require key card access.
  • Those with key card access are not permitted to allow others into these secured spaces (tail-gating) for any reason and will lose after-hours access to BWW if they are found breaking this policy.
  • BWW recently sustained extensive damage last year due to a breach of this policy. Your adherence to this policy will contribute to our community safety and security.
