Clinical Science
"Please note that as of August 1, 2020, new graduate students will be admitted into our PCSAS-accredited clinical science program. Students who were admitted before 2020 will complete their education in our APA-accredited clinical science program but this program will be phased out and not available for new admittees.”
The Clinical Science Faculty at UC Berkeley conduct translational research in which we study foundational mechanistic processes (e.g., emotion, sleep, social processes, cognition, temperament, reward systems, race, and culture) with the goal of better understanding and ameliorating human problems. Our faculty study these processes in at-risk or in patient populations (e.g., substance use disorders, bipolar and other mood disorders, sleep disorders, suicide, dementia and other neurological diseases, ADHD and comorbid conditions) and/or in treatments. The treatment research we conduct is used to develop hypotheses about and/or confirm contributions of the foundational mechanistic processes, and it also contributes to improving, disseminating, and implementing treatments for important human problems and in diverse populations.
