Sample Program Outline for cohorts beginning in 2017 or later

 

 

Year 1

1.   Proseminar in Clinical Psychology (Psy 230A, B, or C: Fall semester).

2.   Clinical Assessment:  Theory, Application and Practicum (Psy 233A/B: Spring semester).

       [Either 233A or B are required]

3.   Research Methods (Psy 235-Clinical Research Methods, or Psy 250D Personality Measurement)

4.   QUACK Statistics Workshops Review (Fall  semester).

5.   Statistics (Psy 205: Spring semester)

6.   Individual Research (Psy 299: Fall and Spring semesters).

7.   Clinical Science Colloquia (Psy 239: Fall and Spring semesters).

8.   Introduction to the Profession of Psychology (Psy 292: Fall semester).

9.   Teaching Psychology (Psy 375: Fall or Spring semester).

10.  Introduction to Clinical Methods (Psy 237H: Spring).

12.  Research Tasks:

   ·  Submit NSF proposal in Fall semester,

   ·  Plan and prepare two-page outline of second-year research project by early Spring semester.

 

Year 2

1.   Clinical Assessment:  Theory, Application and Practicum (Psy 233A/B: Spring semester).

2.  Clinical Prosem (Psy 230 A, B, or C)

3.   Specialty Clinic (Psy 236: Fall and Spring semesters).

4.   Professional Development in Clinical Psychology/Intern Staff Meeting (Psy 237E): Fall and Spring semesters).

5.   Intervention: Specialty Clinic supervision (Psy237G)

6.   Conduct Assessment in Psychology Clinic.

7.   Seminar on Professional Development (Psy 293: Spring semester).

8.   Statistics (Fall or Spring, 2 courses required, HLM or SEM are common choices)

9.   Clinical Science Colloquia (Psy 239: Fall and Spring semesters).

10.   Individual Research (Psy 299: Fall and Spring semesters).

11.  Additional Course Work (electives).

12.  Research task:  Data collection and analysis of Masters-level research.

 

Year 3

1.   Specialty Clinic (Psy 236: Fall and Spring semesters) or Externship.

2.   Professional Development in Clinical Psychology/Intern Staff meeting (Psy 237E): Fall and Spring semesters).

3.   Intervention: Specialty Clinic supervision (Psy237G)

4.   Conduct Assessment in Psychology Clinic.

5.   Statistics (2 courses required)

6.   Clinical Science Colloquia (Psy 239: Fall and Spring semesters).

9.   Research and Program Tasks:

   · Present Masters-level research project at a Clinical Science Colloquium early in the Fall.

   · Complete Masters-level research paper by end of Spring semester.

   · Complete and/or prepare for Qualifying Exam.

 

Year 4

1.   Clinical Science Colloquia (Psy 239: Fall and Spring semesters).

2.   Individual Research (Psy 299: Fall and Spring semesters).

3.   Additional Course Work (electives).

4.   Optional:  Additional clinical work (Externship;  Assessment, If space permits Specialty Clinic).

5.   Research and Program Tasks:

   ·  Complete Qualifying Examination.

   ·  Obtain approval of dissertation proposal.

   ·  Apply for Clinical Internship if dissertation proposal approved by October 1.

 

 

Year 5

PLAN A:

1.   Full-time Clinical Internship.

2.   Complete dissertation by end of Year 5.

PLAN B:

1.   Clinical Science Colloquia (Psy 239: Fall and Spring semesters).

2.   Individual Research (Psy 299: Fall and Spring semesters).

3.   Additional Course Work (electives).

4.   Research and Program Tasks:

5.   Obtain approval of dissertation proposal by October 1.

·  Apply for Clinical Internship and complete the internship in Year 6.

·  Complete dissertation before beginning Internship if possible.

 

For students in the APA program (i.e., admitted prior to 2020): Breadth (discipline-specific knowledge) requirements

·  History and Systems (offered intermittently)

·  Survey-level and advanced graduate training in Affect, Biology, Cognition, Development, Social Psychology and one graduate-level training experience that integrates two of these domains.  These requirements can be met through a combination of graduate coursework, GRE psychology specific scores above the 70th percentile, undergraduate coursework, or a portfolio that lists lectures, workshops, readings, and other relevant training experiences in detail with the hours involved.  Discipline-specific knowledge requirements must be approved by the research advisor and then the DCT. See the program manual for more detail.  

 

Documentation

During their tenure in the Clinical Science Program, students in the APA program must keep detailed “portfolios” of training experiences relevant to breadth requirements. Electronic copies of all portfolio inclusions and approvals must be given to the program administrator for entry into students’ permanent files.

At the conclusion of each academic year, all students must complete a progress report on academic achievement during the preceding year, and submit a current CV and copies of all course syllabi.
