I recently (July 2013) joined the faculty of the Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences. Prior to moving to Vanderbilt, I served as Associate Professor of Speech and Hearing Sciences at the University of Washington, Seattle. 

My research continues to build on the foundation of my dissertation work with Erv Hafter at UC Berkeley, investigating the abilities of human listeners to understand the auditory scene. We are specifically interested in how listeners integrate auditory spatial information across various (and variously reliable) acoustic and multisensory cues. My lab employs a combination of pyschophysical, neuroimaging, and modeling techniques to understand the brain mechanisms at work.

I'm doing my best to pass on what I learned from my Cal Psychology professors: Erv Hafter, Steve Palmer, Russ and Karen DeValois, Rich Ivry, David Wessell, Art Shimamura, Frederic Theunissen, Jack Gallant, and so many other great mentors. I graduated two PhD students at Washington---Andrew Brown (now at the University of Colorado, Denver) and Susan McLaughlin (now at the Institute for Learning and Brain Sciences at UW)---and am looking forward to working with new and familiar faces here at Vanderbilt.

I'm so excited to stay connected with Psych at Berkeley and to catch up with old friends when the Acoustical Society of America rolls in to San Francisco to honor Erv Hafter this December. The rest of you, I hope to see someday soon, maybe at an SFN or OHBM meeting!
