Personality Disorders and Social Decontextualization: What It Means to be a Minorotized Human
Models of personality pathology overwhelmingly develop in socially decontextualized manners. This has important implications for the conceptualization, diagnosis, and treatment of individuals from minoritized backgrounds. With illustrative references to research and clinical practice among sexual and gender minority populations, I will discuss how the philosophy of personality disorders misaligns with accepted ways of understanding the psychosocial needs of LGBTQ+ individuals.
