7 Rules of Power

“Power” remains, to use HBS professor Rosabeth Moss Kanter’s apt phrase, “the organization’s last dirty word.” “Ambition” is also something that “nice” people are sometimes reluctant to acknowledge having. We live in a world of “the end of power” and “new power,” notwithstanding evidence and daily examples that speak to the enduring explanatory power of some fundamental social science principles.

I have learned that the single biggest effect my elective The Paths to Power, has on people is to disinhibit them and to think bigger than when they began the course. Big goals and a willingness to break the rules creates remarkable results, often in a quarter. This is true for men and women of all races. I look forward to a dialogue about my latest book and, for that matter, episodes from the Pfeffer on Power (https://pfefferonpower.com) podcast.
