Human subjects are needed for research experiments in the Banks’ Vision Science Laboratory. The purpose of this research is to investigate the behavior of the visual system and the influence of 3d display properties on it.
You will be shown objects with different display properties and your task would be to indicate with keyboard presses which objects appear different from the others, or which stimuli are closer/further in depth, or you may be asked to identify letters or textures. Accommodative (focus) response to these targets may be recorded using either a commercially available autorefractor or a Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensor, an investigational device built in the Banks’ Vision Science Lab. An experimental session will last approximately 1-2 hours. You may participate in two experimental sessions and the total time commitment can be up to 4 hours.
1. Age 18 or over.
2. Have normal or corrected-to-normal vision using contact lenses. Participant should be able to see clearly at 20 feet what should normally be seen at that distance (i.e., 20/20 vision). This will be confirmed with a visual acuity test.
3. Have had a comprehensive eye exam within past 2 years with no evidence of retinal degenerative disease (including Age-related Macular Degeneration and Retinitis Pigmentosa) or other significant ocular health complaints.
You will be paid $15.00 per hour, prorated by the half hour, for your participation. Graduate students and postdoctoral scholars in the Vision Science program may participate for research experience but will not receive compensation over their stipend. Participation in this research is voluntary and will have no bearing on your standing or grades at the University of California.
