Lower Division Requirements for Freshmen Admitted Prior to Fall 2014/Transfers Admitted Prior to Fall 2015

Please note that ALL courses taken for the major (both lower division prerequisites and upper division requirements) must be taken for a letter grade.

Psychology

Psychology 1

(AP Psychology with a score of 4 or 5 will satisfy this prerequisite)

Evolution One course from:

  • Mollecular & Cellular Biology 41 or 41X
  • Anthropology 1
  • Integrative Biology 35AC
Biological Science Two courses from:

  • Molecular & Cellular Biology 31, 32, 50, 61, 63, 64
  • Biology 1A, 1B, 11
  • Integrative Biology 31
  • Psychology C19/MCB C62 (effective if taken in or after Fall 2012)

AP Biology with a score of 4 or 5 will satisfy one Biological Science prerequisite.
Biology 11 may not count toward the Biological Science prerequisite if taken after Biology 1A or 1B.

 

Social Science Two course from two different departments:

  • Anthropology 3 or 3AC
  • Sociology 3 or 3AC
  • Linguistics 5
  • Philosophy 3, 4, 5, 12A, or 25B
  • Political Science 1,2, or 4

(AP U.S. Government or AP Comparative Government with a score of 4 or 5 will satisfy one Social Science Prerequisite. The other course must not be from the Political Science department.)

Quantitative One course from:

  • Statistics 2, 20, or 21
  • Math 10A, 10B, 1A, 1B, 54 or 55

Math 10A and Math 10B are highly recommended.

(AP Statistics with a score of 4 or 5 will satisfy this prerequisite for students admitted to UC Berkeley prior to Fall 2013)

Please note that AP exams and IB standard exams do not satisfy the quantitative course requirement. IB HL and A-Level exams may be accepted on a case by case basis.
