Friends of Cal Psychology
|
The Department of Psychology is pleased to launch a new fundraising campaign, the Friends of Cal Psychology, motivated by our many alumni and friends who want to ensure that the best students have access to a Berkeley education through undergraduate scholarships and graduate student fellowships. Once here, students learn from and conduct research with our extraordinary faculty. As you reflect on your connection to the department, we hope you will consider a gift to support the students and faculty in Psychology. A brief summary of our current fundraising priorities is provided below. Click here to see a letter from Professors Hafter, Maslach, Riley, and Zedeck, helping launch our campaign

Campaign Priority: Department of Psychology Fund
This fund provides the department with resources that are directed to the department’s top priorities, including faculty support, laboratories, and research opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students.
Campaign Priority: Graduate Student Support
One of the department’s main priorities is to increase the resources available to support graduate students within the department. It is our goal to offer graduate support that is competitive with that of our private-university peers. Our graduate students bring vibrancy to the Department and are the future of the field. They also play a vital role in undergraduate education, serving as graduate student instructors and helping provide mentorship to the hundreds of undergraduates who gain research experience in our labs.
Please consider a gift to one of the following funds.
The Graduate Student Support Fund
Professors Erv Hafter, Al Riley, Steve Palmer, Karen DeValois, Phil Cowan, and Carolyn Cowan have joined together to create a new fund to support graduate students in the department. They are asking Psychology professors, alumni, and friends to join them in providing an annual commitment to graduate students. The Graduate Student Support Fund will provide summer fellowships for outstanding graduate students, as well as provide additional fellowships during the academic year.
Special opportunity to have your gift matched:
Arnold L. Leiman Graduate Student Support Fund
To provide dissertation support for Psychology graduate student instructors who are outstanding teachers and have demonstrated a high level of academic distinction. This fund was established by Prof. Arnold Leiman’s family in memory of his commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship. The Leiman family is offering a challenge—they will match gifts up to a combined total of $25,000 through the end of The Campaign for Berkeley.
Mark R. Rosenzweig Graduate Student Support Fund
To support outstanding graduate students with a preference given to students working in the field of biological psychology. This fund was established in memory of Prof. Mark Rosenzweig by his family. The Rosenzweig family is offering a challenge to match gifts through the end of The Campaign for Berkeley.
We have also been the beneficiary of two new endowed funds from our faculty:
Christina Maslach Graduate Student Support Fund
To support outstanding graduate students working in the field of social psychology. This fund was established by Prof. Maslach. Martha and Sheldon Zedeck Graduate Student Support Fund
To support outstanding graduate students with a preference for students conducting research in applied and/or quantitative psychology. This fund was established by Prof. Zedeck and his wife.
